Carol Van Zandt offers her art and design for licensing and use on paper products, home décor, tabletop, gifts and accessories. Van Zandt specialises in hand rendering, creating design coordinates and collections in both Photoshop and Illustrator; creating fresh contemporary design fusion with a twist.
Fusing her professional training in western fine art with eastern art influences acquired during her seven-year residency in Tokyo and Taipei, Carol’s design collections mirror a marriage of cultures.
New collections incorporating Japanese inspired line and movement with her own styles, Inklings and Brush Storm, reflect her ten years of study of Japanese calligraphy and sumi painting. Whether mod, colloquial or tribal, her Global Vistas embraces ethnic roots and is further expressive of Carol’s broad, multicultural perspective on contemporary design. Carol describes her Tokyo Rococco collection, as “a contemporary Japanese-French fusion”. Inspired by her residence and travels in Asia and Europe, Carol gives classic European design influence a contemporary Japanese twist. Geo Fest includes her signature geometrics and mod florals.
Carol’s innovative work has already received the attention of several US manufacturers. This year she has signed design licensing contracts with Andover Fabrics (NY) and Cisco Consumer Products (Irvine, CA). Carol’s designs are applicable for any product including home décor, paper products, textiles, gifts and accessories.
Professionally trained in both fine art and textile design, Carol is skilled in rendering hand drawn and hand painted imagery in both tight and loose styles. Adept at creating design coordinates and collections, she rounds out her skill set with expertise in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop (CS5).
Trained in both the US and Asia, Carol’s vision is truly global. She holds a BA in Studio Art from Boston College and further studied at Massachusetts College of Art and Rhode Island School of Design. Carol also trained in textile design at The California School of Professional Fabric Design in Berkeley, California, where she is currently a workshop instructor.
Originally from the northeastern US, and currently based in San Francisco, California, Carol has had numerous solo and group shows in America, Japan, and Taiwan. Her fine art is in private collections in over 15 countries in Europe, Asia and America.
